School Closure - 04 January 2023

When we returned to school this morning our site team found that a burst mains water pipe had flooded a large part of the main school building, causing significant damage to ceilings and floors as well as electrics. A large chunk of ceiling in the main corridor has completely collapsed. Plumbers and maintenance teams continue to work to fix the issue and make safe the areas most affected.
As it stands in addition to the structural work needing to be carried out we are currently without water in some areas of the school, meaning our students’ toilets are out of action.
Regretfully we need to delay the start of term. This will allow not only the issues to be fixed but also for the damage to be fully assessed and initial repairs made where possible in order to ensure basic facilities for students.
Lessons tomorrow (Wednesday 4th January) will be on-line and staff will set work using Google Classroom, in the usual way and following the usual timetable. If you require more information or technical support please email google@wellingschool-tkat.org.
At this stage we are expecting that students will return to normal lessons in school on Thursday 5th January. We will absolutely confirm this tomorrow by 1pm but please assume that is the case in the meantime.
We will be in touch in the next couple of hours with families who receive support with free school meals about additional information to cover tomorrow
Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience and be assured that if there were any other safe and secure option then we would avoid this disruption.
Yours faithfully
Daniel Hatley
Executive Headteacher
