Term Dates for 2021 - 2022

Dear Parent/Carers

We have started planning for September and one area we have been reviewing is term dates. A number of secondary schools have a two-week October half term. In consultation with the Governing Body and staff we have set our term dates to also include a two-week October half term.

The school will still be open to students for the same amount of days across the whole year. We have gained this time by removing the use of as many INSET days throughout the year. The main rationale for this change is to enable us to provide high quality ongoing professional development opportunities for our staff and so we can regularly work together on ensuring our teaching approaches are serving our students' needs and remain highly impactful on their progress. We will do this by introducing short and regular twilight training sessions for staff which will be more regular than isolated INSET days.

We are also aware that many families will be looking forward to the chance of having time together either on a family holiday or by getting together with loved ones and we hope that by introducing this two week October break it will afford families the chance to do that without interrupting learning or students having to miss school. Whether at home or away a substantial break in the Autumn Term will be a welcome addition for staff and students. Historically, this is a very long term and we have seen attendance affected around the half term and as we approach the end of term.

Our term dates for 2021-22 CAN BE FOUND HERE

It is important that parent/carers have an opportunity to review these term dates. Attached to this letter are the term dates. If you have any questions or would like to share your feedback please email office@wellingschool-tkat.org by Friday 21 May 2021.

With very best wishes.

Yours faithfully,

Mr R Pett
