On behalf of The Kemnal Academies Trust and our local governing body, I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Griffen as our new Headteacher at Welling School. He will be taking up his new role at Welling at the start of next term.

Currently, Deputy Headteacher at Gaynes School in the London Borough of Havering, Mr Griffen has considerable successful leadership experience and has been a key part in the school’s development and improvement. During a rigorous selection process involving staff, pupils, Governors and members of the Trust, Mr Griffen proved himself as an excellent candidate for this critical role.

In addition, we will be welcoming Tom Knight, currently Vice Principal at Strood Academy and Lorna Newbrook, currently Assistant Headteacher at Bishop Justus School, both of whom will join Miss Sangster and Mr Hemsley as Deputy Headteachers - also at the start of next term.

I will remain based at Welling School to continue working with Mr Griffen and his senior leadership team to ensure continued and rapid development in line with our improvement priorities.

Mr Griffen will be in touch after the Easter break to introduce himself, new members of his team and to tell you the areas each will be leading. There will also be a chance to meet him at a special Parent Forum details of which will be sent early next term.

With the appointment of these colleagues to join the highly dedicated and committed leaders and staff already working with us, I am even more optimistic about a strong, stable and very successful future for our school and am very much looking forward to working with them.
