Adverse Weather - Tuesday 13 December

Thank you for your understanding and support when we had to make the decision to close the school this morning. There were in excess of 40 staff unable to get to school and in addition, although our site team were on site very early it was not possible to ensure the snow and ice on pathways, the playground and other outdoor areas was safe enough to use. This would have made it impossible to run a safe and meaningful day for students on site. Many of you had also got in touch to say your child will be absent as you were quite rightly, apprehensive about them making their journey to school in difficult conditions.

Looking ahead to tomorrow the conditions look slightly better in that, as I write this, there is no forecast for more snow. There is however likely to be disruption on the roads and public transport due to inclement weather and overnight fog and ice.

The school day will start at 10.00am tomorrow to allow students and staff additional time to travel to school safely. Students should arrive no earlier than 9.45 and go straight to period 2 when they arrive. Their morning attendance mark will be taken then, in place of registration. The rest of the school day will run as per the usual timings and timetable.

Students may make their own decisions about footwear for tomorrow if their usual school shoes do not provide adequate support when walking in wintry weather. We would ask however that if not wearing their uniform school shoes, that they make sensible decisions. The rest of their uniform should be worn in full.

Thank you again for your support in engaging your child in the lessons posted on-line today and we look forward to welcoming students back to school tomorrow at 10.00am.

Yours faithfully,

Daniel Hatley
