28 November 2022 - Letter to Parents

Dear Families

You will have seen in the local and national media that over the weekend two young people tragically lost their lives in knife attacks.

I am extremely sad to share that one of those young men was ex-Welling student Kearne Solanke. Kearne left Welling last year; he was a kind and popular student who still had many friendships in the school and local community.

Staff and students have spent time together today supporting each other at what is an extremely upsettingtime. We have had a team of qualified counsellors available all day and will continue to offer additional support to those that would like it, in the coming days.

Young people respond in different ways to tragic events like this; even those that were not closely linked to Kearne may well still be affected. For many it will take a while to absorb what has happened.

Please do let us know if you think your son or daughter would benefit from some additional support and input from professionals to help them deal with this event.

Our love and thoughts are with Kearne’s family, including his younger brother who is also a member of our school community.

As ever please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or if we can support you or your child further.

Yours faithfully

Daniel Hatley
Executive Headteacher
