Post-16 Pathways

At this time of year all Year 11 students nationally will be exploring and deciding their next steps for their Post 16 education. This is an exciting time as the choices they make now support the direction they wish to take for their adult lives. Many students decide to continue studying a traditional academic route through A levels whereas others prefer a more vocational style of learning through Applied qualifications or the apprenticeship route. Whatever the decisions students are presented with, we are here at Welling Sixth form to offer you a range of courses that may suit your preferred pathway. Welling Sixth form has a successful record of delivering outcomes that provide students with the results they need to go on to university, higher level apprenticeships or employment.
From September we will be introducing the Career-Related International Baccalaureate qualification. This is a globally recognised qualification that offers students a bespoke course of study with a career-related focus of Business and Financial Studies. This is supported by IB Diploma standard-level subjects of maths and English and a core programme that develops students personal and professional skills, service learning and language development. It is a challenging but highly rewarding route, offered to a limited number of students. More information about this exciting new programme will be shared at the open event.
6th Form Open Event: Thursday 11 November 4-6pm
We would like to invite parents, carers and Year 11 students to the Welling School 6th form open event on Thursday 11 November from 4-6pm. The aim of the evening is to provide further information about the courses we offer, give you the opportunity to speak with course leaders and meet some current 6th form students who will share their experiences of Welling Sixth form. We are not able to provide advice or guidance on apprenticeships at this event, students will be advised where to seek this out through careers assemblies and information shared in tutor time.
We would advise all of our Year 11 students to attend this event, wherever students may be thinking of applying, the best advice is to see what is being offered by a range of Post 16 providers. We would ask that you register your intention to attend on our school website by following the link to the 6th form open event by clicking HERE. Also note that there will be no onsite parking for this event and be mindful of the parking restrictions on roads surrounding the school.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 11 November.
Yours faithfully,
Ms M Major
