School Closure - Coronavirus

Welling School will be closed to all students except the children of key workers and vulnerable pupils from Monday 23rd March 2020 until further notice, as per the decision taken by the UK Government to control the spread of COVID-19.

Update: on Sunday 11 May, the government announced the plan of a phased re-opening of schools. As it stands, Welling School remains closed to all students except those of parents who are keyworkers and vulnerable students. Once we have more information from DfE regarding when and who Welling will reopen to, we will let parents know.

The school has been planning extensively for this eventuality so that all our students can continue their education from home. The school has launched its Home Study Hub, link below or can be accessed via our main website - which can be found by clicking HERE .

As of Monday 20th April, all students will be expected to complete online classes via Google Classroom. More information can be found on the Study Hub, or by clicking HERE.

On this website there is general content available for all students and specific content available for each year group. On the home page of this website is an enquiry form that parent/carers can fill out if you have any queries regarding the Study Hub. The expectation is that students complete work in line with their current timetable. Further information about home study will be sent out at the start of next week.

Welling School will, however, remain open for some specific groups of students:

  • Those whose parents are defined as key workers. The cabinet office will release details of what defines a key worker this week, but broadly it includes those employed in the NHS, education, emergency services or elements of the food supply chain.
  • Those students who fall into a vulnerable group.
  • Those students who have an EHCP.

Any updates and changes to the school closure will be posted on the school website, via email and the schools Twitter (@welling_school) so continue to check back.

What action you can take?

A UK wide campaign has been launched to provide clear advice on how to slow the spread of Coronavirus.

Please help to support the campaign which promotes basic hygiene practices, such as regularly washing hands and always sneezing into a tissue, to stem the spread of viruses.

The government is closely monitoring the spread of the Coronavirus and is taking action at home and abroad.

Public Health England and the Foreign Office have issued advice for anyone travelling to the area. This can be found at:
